24 February 2025 marks three years since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. These have been years of incredible trials, strength and unity of the Ukrainian people.
Throughout this time, the Help – Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe team has remained close to those affected by the war. From the very first days, we have worked to support vulnerable communities, provide people with basic needs and help them keep hope alive for the future.
With four offices in Kyiv, Uzhhorod, Kharkiv and Mykolaiv, Help has implemented 16 projects with a total budget of over €36 million in various fields. Our support during this time includes cash assistance for thousands of families who have lost their homes or livelihoods due to the fighting, the supply of fuel briquettes that have helped thousands of families to stay warm through the winter, even in remote areas, the provision of medical equipment to hospitals that has saved many lives, and the supply of pumps to affected CHP plants to restore their operations and provide vital utilities.
Despite the danger, our team continued to work even under fire. Every registration and every aid delivered is a step towards supporting those in crisis.
‘The situation in Ukraine remains critical, and people face new challenges every day – from lack of resources to destruction. Help – Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe is providing emergency aid, supporting infrastructure, helping communities to recover and strengthen economic resilience. We are going to reconstruct housing, schools, hospitals and expand support for those who need it most,’ said Oleksandr Novykov, Head of Help Ukraine.
