Help – Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe e.V. is a non-profit, independent humanitarian organization founded in Germany in 1981 during the war in Afghanistan. It operates globally, providing emergency aid and sustainable reconstruction with an annual project volume exceeding 60 million euros. Help focuses on assisting people in need, primarily in Africa, Asia, and Europe. Recognized internationally, Help receives funding from national and global donors and adheres to humanitarian aid standards, ensuring transparency in fund usage and impact monitoring.

Position Overview

Help is seeking a qualified professional to fill the position of Field Assistant specialized in humanitarian aid in Mykolaiv. The Field Assistant will work under supervision of the Team Lead and will be responsible for the implementation of program activities in the humanitarian sector in the Southern and Eastern part of Ukraine.

To support our team, we are looking for a: Field Assistant

Location:    Field Assistant will be based in Mykolaiv with frequent travel throughout Ukraine.

Contract duration:    Fixed-term contract until December 31, 2025, renewable

Reports to:    Project Manager (Team Lead)

Organizational Unit:    Program Department

Employment status:   Full time, 100%

Supervisory responsibility:   No

Starting date: ASAP

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support of implementation and monitoring of all project components with a special focus on Anticipatory Action, Food Security and Livelihood, Multipurpose Cash Assistance, Shelter, Critical Infrastructure.
  • Needs assessment and identification of facilities and households that meet the criteria of the HELP program, followed by the development of proposals for interventions.
  • Support in organizing and conducting regular field visits at all stages of project implementation, including monitoring and evaluation of results (most often in the Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, but depending on the projects, other regions are also possible).
  • Regularly informing management and the team about the progress of the project, problems, risks, and achievements.
  • Translates all documents related to Help projects and provides interpretation during meetings from Ukrainian to English and vice versa. Keeps minutes of internal and external meetings in English.
  • Preparation of reports, protocols and documentation in accordance with internal procedures and donor requirements.
  • Processes and controls inventory lists, staffing lists and ensures their accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintaining contacts with local partners, in cooperation with the supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Values

  • Valid B driving license is a must
  • Previous work experience in humanitarian assistance
  • Active knowledge of spoken and written English
  • IT literacy
  • Analytical and organizational skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, self-initiative, responsibility
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of the team
  • Ability to learn quickly and adjust to new assignments
  • Willingness to perform extensive field work
