Access to finance is essential for the development of small and medium-sized businesses and the economic resilience of communities. This was the focus of a SME Resilience Alliance roundtable attended by representatives of the Help team and other Alliance members.
Representatives of the Help team recently took part in a thematic roundtable organised by the SME Resilience Alliance, focusing on non-bank financing instruments for small and medium-sized enterprises in Ukraine.
The meeting took place on 28 September and was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Environment of Ukraine, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), as well as other members of the Alliance.
During the roundtable, participants discussed the potential use of non-bank financial instruments to support Ukrainian entrepreneurs. In particular, the discussion covered crowdfunding, microfinance, leasing, factoring, private lending, venture capital and guarantee schemes.
Particular attention was paid to the challenges faced by organisations and entrepreneurs in developing and scaling up such instruments, as well as to the regulatory environment and existing gaps in the financing of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Participants also shared their own experiences, discussed best practices and common challenges, and explored opportunities for further collaboration. Representatives from KSE presented an overview of the financial landscape for Ukrainian SMEs and the potential role of non-banking instruments in overcoming existing financial constraints.
For Help, taking part in such professional discussions is an opportunity to exchange experiences, gain a better understanding of the needs of Ukrainian businesses, and be part of a joint search for solutions that will promote the economic resilience of entrepreneurs and communities.
Support for small and medium-sized businesses is a key part of the recovery of the Ukrainian economy and of creating opportunities for people to develop their own businesses, even in the midst of war.
